When we woke up this morning we were convinced that Lliam’s blood tests were going to show a positive trend today. Lliam is really starting to look quite healthy. His lips are starting to show a nice pink colour, and the incredible paleness we have gotten used to is slowly being replaced with a more healthy pink complexion. He also has a lot more energy. Continue reading ‘Week 19 - Promising results!’
Monthly Archive for March, 2008
Today was really a great day. We went in for the standard weekly check-up, and while Lliam looked really well, we did not expect the blood count results to be so good. Almost two weeks after the last blood transfusion, Lliam’s hemoglobin count is still 84, and his platelets 34. His MCV also went up to 90. The result of this set of tests is really good, as the counts never stayed up for that long ever since he was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. Dr Juliana was very impressed. We were also told that in future were not to report directly to the day ward after the blood tests, as we have been doing, but to report to the doctor’s rooms instead. The reason for this is that the likelihood of a blood transfusion changed from “probable” to “maybe” over the past couple of weeks due to the stability in his blood count results. A friend of mine has a child that needs special care, and I remember how I used to listen to her in the past when she spoke about the world of their family somehow becoming smaller. I thought I understood, but this experience gave me new insights. Continue reading ‘Week 17 - Planning for Easter’
Yesterday Lliam had to excuse himself about halfway though his tennis lesson as he was feeling extremely tired and had heart palpitations. After he rested a while, he felt better and the palpitations stopped. When he felt unwell again later last night we decided to take him in for a check-up first thing in the morning. Continue reading ‘Week 16 - Blood Transfusion’
A full month has past since Lliam’s last transfusion, and time for his weekly check up at the hospital. As has become a habit of ours now, we both have a look at him in the morning and try and guess the results of the tests to be performed today. From the looks of it, his platelets are still holding up, but from what we can see he is getting paler again by the day, which probably means his red blood count is slowly dropping again.
