Week 23 - Better and better…

We were off for a basic check-up again this morning. Again we received only good news and no blood transfusions were required. Lliam’s blood test showed positive trends for hemoglobin, platelets and neutrophils. Dr Juliana is really very impressed with the progress Lliam is making, and she is so confident that things are looking up that we only have to go back for a check-up in a month’s time!

Week 21 - The Waiting Game

Today was our second fortnightly check up. Instead of having the blood extracted directly from the veins, Lliam elected to have his finger pricked and the blood expressed by the pathology lab. The volume of blood required for just a standard Full Blood Count (FBC) is quite small, about 2ml, resulting in this approach being a feasible alternative. Giving Lliam the choice over where and how the blood must be drawn is a nice touch by the hospital, as it allows him to feel more in control of his own destiny.
